TWO West Devon schools have been recognised for their commitment to competition, school sport and physical education for all.
Okehampton Primary have achieved gold and South Tawton Primary silver in the Schools Games Mark Accreditation.
Stuart Lord the area’s school sports co-ordinator said: ‘This is a great testimony to the work going on in both schools.’
The criteria to achieve this involves developing young sports leaders; commitment to curriculum PE and active playtimes; engaging in appropriate competitions and festivals, in which both schools excelled; training staff; generating active opportunities for all abilities, including those with special physical and learning needs and developing links with OCRA and local clubs/groups so that young people and families can access activity in community time.
Stuart Lord, OCRA manager, said: ‘Well done to both schools . With physical activity also having such positive impact on children’s learning, health, enjoyment and social interaction. It is great to see physical activity at the heart of the school and children’s development.’
