A PUPIL from Lew Trenchard Primary School won a robot for her school after entering a competition in children’s newspaper First News.
Lydia Hobbs won the Meccanoid after she wrote 100 words to explain why her school would benefit from having one of the robots.
Over the last few weeks Year 6 children have worked hard to assemble, programme and test the Meccanoid.
The bulk of the work has been done by Lydia with help from Anwen Wall.
The robot can now perform a wide variety of actions and can be linked via a series of apps to an iPad, laptop or iPhone.
The robot can now dance, walk, talk, do karate chops, tell jokes and give a high five. It can be voice controlled and its potential is still being explored.
Headteacher Tim Woodward said: ‘This has been a fantastic learning experience for our Year 6 children and will provide a high level of challenge for other year groups as the curriculum develops in ICT.
‘The whole school is proud of what Lydia has achieved and we are grateful for all the opportunities for skill development that we now have in this area.’
