‘LEARNING through play’ was the motto at Hatherleigh Primary School when they hosted Julian Surtees of Technic Lego in Schools.

The school’s Year 5 and Year 6 classes spent a day exploring and building Lego as part of their class topic work, mastering engineering challenges set by Julian.  The Year 5 topic of Victorians saw the children successfully building moving trains and spanning wide expanses, while the Year 6’s viking theme led them to create boats and powerful catapults.

Some were a little too powerful as Lego figures were inadvertently flung far over the school fence!

All the children displayed great teamwork, resilience and perseverance in completing their master builds. The school expressed thanks to Julian for coming in to run the workshops.
