Duchy division five Gunnislake reserves 2 Dynamo St Dennis 2 GUNNISLAKE ultimately paid the price for several missed chances as league leaders St Dennis came back from two down to salvage a point against their fellow title challengers. Gunnislake hit the outside of the post inside the first 30 seconds of the match. From the kick-off Jarryd Kelly and Ashley Dobson hassled the Saints' rearguard and the ball fell to Kelly who produced a good 20 yard strike. The same two players combined on six minutes to force a good save from the Saints' keeper. Dobson crossed and Kelly shot from 16 yards. Shortly after a long ball by a Saints defender caught out the Gunnislake defence. A Dynamo striker got in behind to lob Gunnislake keeper Ian Gray only to see his effort cleared off the line thanks to the speedy recovery of Dean Martin. This was the only time in the first half Saints threatened the Gunnislake goal, as the hosts remained on top with Neil Kinger and Andy Southcott on top in midfield and any Saints threats being snubbed out by Martin, Steve Gaggini, Allan Doidge and Mark Southcott. Midway through the first half Gunnislake central defender Martin opened the scoring. Saints failed to clear a Dobson corner and the veteran used his experience to cleverly head home despite facing away from the goal. Gunnislake chances were not put away throughout the half and the interval was reached with Saints fortunate to still be in the game. Kelly scored for the home side in the 46th minute when the impressive Adam Brimmacombe played him in to shoot home accurately into the far bottom corner of the goal from just inside the left corner of the penalty area. Saints then came alive as Gunnislake for the first time seemed to switch off for a 10 minute period. A couple of chances came and went and it appeared Gunnislake had got through this sticky patch as they were again getting on top. But a home player got caught in possession some 25 yards from goal and a Saints player struck home an absolute cracker in to the top corner of the goal. For the remainder of the match the game was end to end. But it was only Gunnislake who were creating chances from their attacks but they failed to turn them into goals. Martin produced a fine header that struck the bar, Gaggini and Kinger both produced uncharacteristically off target headers when well placed while Kelly and Dobson each had more than one shot well saved. With 10 minutes remaining a swift break saw Saints deliver the ultimate sucker punch thanks to a second fine shot from distance that denied Gunnislake the three points they deserved. l This Saturday the Gunnislake reserves are at Looe whilst the Premier side entertain Boscastle. Both games kick off at 2.30 p.m.
