SATURDAY saw Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club start this year's fixtures with a home match against local rivals Callington Bowling Club.
Tavistock captain, Mike Allen, led his team to a convincing 107-67 victory, with Tavistock winning four of the five rinks played.
The biggest margin of victory was achieved by Tavistock 'skip' and Devon County senior vice-president, Roger Bawden who led his team, comprising his wife, Henny, Derek Bradford and Victor Doidge to a 30-3 win.
Der Sanders led his team of Marion Allen, Gerald Worth and Geoff Cork to a hard fought 21-17 victory in a game where the lead changed hands and then back again.
Husband and wife Colin and Jenny Tremaine each skipped their teams to a win, with Jenny's team of Val Southern, Arthur Worth and Ray Meneer winning 19-2 and husband Colin's team of Brian Preece, Walley Northey and Betty Browse achieving a narrow 18-15 victory.
The only losing rink was that skipped by club captain Mike Allen, whose team of Yvonne Meneer, Gordon Northey and Dorice Hicks went down 19-20 to the Callington captain's team.
