A FEAST of wet and wild fun is in store for visitors to Roadford Lake this month, as the noisy and exciting annual Dragon Boat Racing event takes place.
The event on September 30 is organised by Tracy Izod of local children's charity CHICKS, in conjunction with the event sponsors, Ginsters of Callington.
CHICKS is the Milton Abbot-based charity which provides respite breaks for underprivileged kids, both from West Devon and city areas.
Tracy said no experience is necessary to take part in the races, as full training and safety equipment is given out on the day.
The event is mixed meaning 'anyone' can take part.
Teams will consist of 14 to 18 rowers plus a drummer to take to the head of the boat.
There is a fully experienced helmsman to guide each team across the lake and up the course to the winning line to the cheers of the crowd!
Every rower needs to secure at least £25.00 in sponsorship to take part.
The event is being held on the café side of Roadford Lake in conjunction with the annual 'CHICKS Country Fayre & Giant Car Boot Sale'.
There will be live music, a children's entertainer, face painting, a beer tent, The Roadford Café, Ice Creams and Nellie's Nest for outside refreshments.
So far there are eleven local teams entered in the 'Ginsters Dragon Boat Challenge', fighting for the medals and silver trophy from Best Foods at Lifton, Harvey's Wine Bar from Launceston, Callington Rugby Club, 'The Wallis Family Team' from Lezant and the Chip Shop Inn from Chip Shop near Tavistock.
Anyone who is interested in getting a team together should ring Tracy on 01822 870692 for further details as soon as possible.
