ONE of Northern Ireland's leading religious and political figures was in Tavistock last Saturday for the induction of a new minister of the town's Free Presbyterian Church.

Dr Ian Paisley was the special guest for the induction of the Rev Philip Kyle in front of some 150 people at Tavistock Primary School.

There were many in attendance who had made the trip from Mr Kyle's home of Northern Ireland, including family, friends and ministers, as well as the prestigious guest preacher.

Free Presbyterian moderator and Protestant preacher Dr Paisley has become well-known for his stirring sermons in Northern Ireland.

In his address to the congregation, Dr Paisley emphasised the need for men to stop and survey their situation and seek the old scriptural paths.

In the course of his message he also exhorted Mr Kyle to preach the old fashioned gospel message of Christ's saving power.

Following Dr Paisley's sermon Mr Kyle related the story of his conversion and how he felt led to accept the call to the Free Presbyterian Church in Tavistock.

The Kyle family were formally welcomed to the church and presentations were made to them on behalf of the congregation.

Following the service tea was served by the ladies of the congregation.
