SUNDAY saw the last round of local Downhill Mountain Bike club, Woodland Riders winter series of races.

Held on the Tavistock Woodlands estate near Chipshop, the rain just about stayed away and created a dry, dusty, loose surface for the racers to navigate. Speeds were high as the riders went up against the clock to be fastest man down the steep, rocky course. Trees, rocks, roots as well as some man made jumps all were fitted in the the winding track and although a few minor crashes took place the St John Ambulance crew were thankfully quiet.

Local rider Ash Mullane (Kustom Bikes/Drift MTB ) once again led the way winning the senior mens race with a time of 1 minute 06 seconds, almost a second quicker than main rival Ben Deakin (Muc-Off/Royal Marines).

Other catergory winners were junior: Jay Williamson (Certini Bicycles); masters, Jim Davage; youth, Jack Troake (Team Bigpeaks), veterans, Tony Hicks; juvenile. Sam Troake.

Special mention to youngest rider Luke Hodson of Woodland Riders who is just 10 years-old.

Simon Hubbard, on behalf of the organisers, said: 'Another great event held by the club and planning is now in full swing for more races in the summer.'
