MANAGERS at West Devon Borough Council have admitted an unnamed employee was paid for a double overtime claim, according to an auditor?s report to this week?s meeting of the council?s scrutiny committee. The Price Waterhouse Coopers audit found that an employee had submitted two overtime claims for the same hours in different departments. The claims, for almost two-and-a-half hours, had both been paid and had gone unnoticed, since they were authorised by different departmental managers. The report stated: ?There is a risk that people who work for different departments submit double overtime claims. ?We recommend that a system is put in place to ensure that if an employee submits more than one overtime claim during a month, a check is performed to ensure the hours worked are claimed only once.? Managers have agreed there was a need to check overtime claims. They suggested that copies of all claims should be be submitted to the payroll officer to check individual forms.
