IT has been double up time for the Hospicecare charity shop in the Arcade, Okehampton. Since the premises expanded at the beginning of the month so have the profits.
Head of fundraising for Hospicecare, Cathy Debenham said: ?We had a fantastic first week and doubled our takings. I think it was an expression of support for a good cause.
?The fact this is for a local cause means people know that all the money is staying in the area.?
She said people were very generous in supporting the shop which is run by manager Viv Meaker.
?The old shop was too small. What is great now is that there is a bit more space which is great for the volunteer staff and for people to look around,? said Cathy.
This year is the 21st birthday of Hospicecare ? and to celebrate the North Dartmoor Friends of Hospicecare are aiming to raise a total of £21,000.
Money raised locally goes to supporting the Hospicecare community sister Gay Hill who works out of Castle Hospital, Okehampton.
Friends volunteer fundraiser Edward Sweet is calling on the whole community to support the challenge ? with donations or some bright ideas to raise cash.
?An event can take the form of a coffee morning, concert or bring and buy ? in fact we?d like to hear of any ideas people may have,? he said.
