A BERE ALSTON mother is to take on the London Marathon in a bid to raise funds for her son?s school and the Special Care Baby Unit at St Michael?s Hospital, Bristol. Dotty Allan, 40, who has already raised almost £700 for the Tsunami appeal this year, has been recovering from a calf injury all week, but believes it won?t cause too much trouble for her on the big day. ?It won?t hurt so long as I keep on running,? she said. Dotty hopes that the cash raised will allow Bere Alston Primary to buy a Maypole and contribute to new equipment for the Bristol baby unit which has cared for the children of several members of Dotty?s running club in the past. The Supermum from Bere Alston is appealing to people in the local area to sponsor her in the Marathon. ?Whatever you can afford,? she said, ?all money will be divided between the two charities.? Dotty asks that anyone wanting to make a donation makes the payment at the time of pledging. You can make a pledge by calling Bere Alston Primary on 01822 840519. Alternatively, sponsorship forms are available from the doctor?s surgery and most shops in the Bere Alston area.
