THREE cheers for Mr Castle and his beans (Global warming growth, Letters, June 7). No doubt his beans were also helped by the extra carbon dioxide in the air that results from warming oceans. If I were in my twenties, rather than my sixties, I should now be planting olive trees for a valuable cash crop to lubricate my retirement. When I went to school, carbon dioxide was plant food, precursor of glucose and, indeed, life as we know it; also, less soluble in warm than in cold water. As far as I know, it still is. Will someone tell this to the government, please? Then perhaps we can stop panicking about our ?carbon footprints? and enjoy the nice sunshine, along with Mr Castle?s beans.
