Okehampton and District Lions Club are holding their fourth annual Donkey Derby this summer.

The event will raise money for local charities through the club and will be host to a variety of fun activities, including a family dog show, numerous trade stalls and a bouncy castle.

The donkeys, which come from Hunt's Racing Donkeys of Guildford, will be ridden by local pony club and riding school members.

Organiser of the Donkey Derby, Peter Roberts, said they will be looking for sponsors of the donkeys.

He said: 'I'm very grateful to the people of Okehampton and the area who actually support Donkey Derby.

'All the money raised on the day goes back into Okehampton and the surrounding area.

'Everyone is welcome to come along — it's a great day out.'

Radio Devon presenter Ian Brass will also be attending the event.

Each donkey can be sponsored for £25 and be named in the programme.

Each programme will have a lucky number printed on the top right hand side, with a £100 cash prize up for grabs for whoever matches the number with the draw.

Local industries, businesses and shops are invited to place advertisements in the programme.

The event will be held on Sunday, June 27 in Simmons Park, with the first of six donkey races at 1pm.

They will be followed by three sulky races, with the grand final at 4.45pm.
