A PROCESSION through Bedford Square with a donkey will be seen on Sunday as Tavistock Parish Church marks the beginning of Holy Week.
St Eustachius' Church will mark Palm Sunday, when Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey, with children leading the donkey in a procession from the Parish Centre, past the town hall and into the church.
Once inside, the children will lead the service with some drama.
The procession begins a week of thought-provoking talks by the parish clergy and lay readers.
Priest-in-charge of Tavistock and Gulworthy, the Rev Michael Brierley, said: 'The aim is to slow down and really focus in a lively and meaningful way on these events which have been so influential, and which still touch so many lives today.'
Based on the places in Jerusalem, which Jesus frequented in the last week of his life, the addresses will start this Sunday (March 28) at 6pm, and then at 10.30am on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week, March 29 to 31, with each address being repeated at a quiet service of night prayer at 8pm each evening.
Cards and leaflets with details of events and services are available at the back of the church, and details are also listed on the parish church website at http://www.tavistockparishchurch.org.uk">www.tavistockparishchurch.org.uk
All are welcome to attend the Palm Sunday procession, which will gather in the parish centre shortly before 9.45am.
Mr Brierley said: 'Come and take advantage of what we're offering this Holy Week. We hope you'll find it really helpful.'
