HAND and electric tools, sewing machines, computers and aids for secretarial work are among items needed to help a community in Africa.

Two containers are being loaded with medical supplies for small hospitals among slums and refugees in Central Africa that were started by King's Church in Tavistock.

The church's Great Lakes Africa Mission is adding vocational training to its activities, which will help young people to find work.

Pastor Colin Bond said the NHS had given 'tremendous support', as had some schools.

They now needed tools from trades and craftsmen to get the young people started, he said. Tools for carpentry, masonry, plastering, plumbing, metal working, decorating and anything to do with the building, motoring and other trades. Also needed are sewing machines, computers and secretarial aids.

The mission has built a hotel and restaurant to accommodate safari holidays and some of the profit will go to pay the wages of medical staff. For information go to http://www.sunrisesafaris.co.uk">www.sunrisesafaris.co.uk or http://www.kingsnews.org.uk">www.kingsnews.org.uk
