IF you know a ’local hero’ you can nominate them for West Devon Borough Council’s Mayoral Awards before nominations close on Monday, February 29.
The awards celebrate the unsung heroes and heroines of the area, recognising the achievements of those who have accomplished something remarkable in West Devon, or improved the reputation of the borough on the national stage.
Residents of all ages are eligible for the awards which fall into three categories: a young person aged under 18; an organisation, or person over 18; and an individual or group who have made a significant contribution to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of West Devon.
Last year, the winners were:
• Tavistock College student Mark Lewis, in the under 18 Award
• Chris Marson and David Youle, joint winners of the award for an organisation or individual aged over 18
• The 2015 Mayor’s Green Award went to the Forgotten Garden of Lewtrenchard.
Cllr David Cloke, Mayor of West Devon, said: ’These awards are always high quality. It is wonderful to read about the worthwhile contributions of those that live and work within our borough.’
If you are a resident, school or business and would like to nominate, either individuals or groups, who really help to make people’s lives better or those who have achieved something outstanding, then please get in touch.
Nominations must be received by Monday, February 29.
