I SUPPORT Tavistock Town Council in its rejection of the Core Strategy document.

In the past ten years we have seen a gradual and integral growth within the town with the following developments, to name but a few: Deacon's Green, Mitre Close, Canon's Way, Muralto House, Daleswood Road, Meadowbrook, Drake's Meadow, Abby Mead, Bedford Court, Garden Mews, Abby Court, Lakeside, Fenner House, Gainesborough, Dancy Mews, Vigo Mews, Waters Edge, Heritage Park, Foundry Mews, St John's Court, St Boniface House, St Michael's Lodge, Tiddy Close, Beadle Court, Dane's Close, Ransum Way, Armada Court and the two large greenfield sites at Tiddybrook Mewdows.

I conservatively estimate these represent over 500 new homes and probably 2,000 inhabitants. Where does the expansion stop?

Do we want to become another Yeovil or Gillingham (Dorset)?

The proposed railway is purely a sweetener. The cost for its scanty service and insecure future should be put to better use. After all it only links Tavistock to Bere Alston who already have a railway. The bus goes through Whitchurch, Horrabridge, Yelverton, Crapstone, past Tesco and on into Plymouth via Derriford. Don't scrap pensioners travel passes, improve the service for all.
