WHILST much emphasis is being highlighted on whether mobile telephones might be injurious to health it surprises me greatly that another aspect of their use seems to be totally ignored by users.

I can equate the gain for businesses, which need on the spot contact, and the benefit to the disabled who might need urgent assistance, but in view of the call charges other users must surely have lost their senses or have money to burn.

One sees schoolchildren chatting away for ages seemingly unaware of what it costs or not worrying about mum or dad picking up the bill.

You cannot blame the children if their parents are stupid enough to give them a mobile, albeit that behind it all those parents are finding it hard to buy the normal requirements for a family. Incredibly, a survey has shown that no less that 25 per cent of mobile users are children.

The parents' excuse is most probably similar to that involving expensive toys and computers ie their children must have these items as their friends have them.

When will those parents put their brains in gear or indeed the users who could quite easily restrict their 'phone calls to their normal home telephones.
