Tavistock Town U16s 1

Torpoint U16s 2

TAVISTOCK were unlucky to lose a closely contested game on Saturday at Kelly College, especially after the corresponding fixture at Torpoint earlier in the season resulted in a 10-0 win for the Cornish side.

The measure of Town's improvement since that game is that they almost came away with the points although missing influential midfielder Pete Page.

Torpoint opened the scoring with some neat football, but Tavistock' s front two of Sam Turner and Matt McClung were a constant threat to the visitors and latching on to a through ball, Turner's skill forced a rash challenge which resulted in a penalty.  McClung sent the equaliser high to the keepers left to give Town just reward for their efforts.

The impressive Charlie Gale was prompting from midfield and Torpoint were made to work hard for every opening. Tommy Cole nullified their main midfield threat with his man to man marking.

An all round hardworking team performance gained scant reward as Torpoint scored what turned out to be the winner with a bizarre goal which looped over stand in keeper Luke Maloney who had performed with confidence throughout.

Tavistock Town U16s 3

Buckfastleigh U16s 4

TAVISTOCK took an early lead in this quarter-final game when Sam Turner was upended in the box and Tommy Cole scored with the penalty.

Buckfastleigh, who were from a higher league, were a good test for the Town side.  The game swung from end to end with the equaliser for the visitors coming on the half hour. Another well taken goal from the hard working Turner was cancelled out ten minutes later. Buckfastleigh took the lead midway through the second half when a through ball eluded the Tavistock back four.

Turner's second of the game came after Tommy Cole had made a strong run to set up McClung. He sent an inch perfect cross for Turner who headed past the diving keeper to level the scores once again. Another reward for the striking partnership who are giving the best defenders in U16s' football a hard time.
