I HAVE traded from a stall in Tavistock Pannier Market for over ten years and generally the customers I have are wonderful, particularly our regular local ones. Their constant support and loyalty is what keeps the market going especially during the quieter months.
However, last Friday whilst serving on a colleague’s stall a lady, who was a regular and I believed trustworthy customer, conned me out of £10 by claiming I had given her the wrong change.
The incident has upset me greatly, not the small amount of money but the abuse of the trust that I believed had been established with our local customers. All day I hoped she would be honest enough to return the money and that it had been a genuine mistake. Unfortunately she did not.
Tavistock is a great town and I love living and working here not least because of the fantastic local people. But the greatest thing a small town and community such as ours has is trust and it is a shame when that is spoiled by one dishonest individual.
