THERE was no need for people to be on their own on Christmas Day and 64 people came together for a traditional Christmas dinner held at Tavistock United Reformed Church.
Organisers said a big 'thank you' to those who gave up their time on Christmas Eve, as well as the day itself, to prepare, transport, cook, serve and entertain the guests. Tribute was also paid to the local businesses who contributed financially or donated goods. These included J & S Downing, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Lidl Supermarket, WM Morrisons Supermarket, Tavistock Area Support Services, Tavistock Lions Club, Tavistock Rotary Club and Tavistock Strollers. There were also several financial donations from individual people as well as two delicious home made Christmas cakes!
The Rev Roger Cornish said: 'It was a very happy occasion and everyone who volunteered their time worked well.
'One guest wrote: "Thank you for doing something so special. It was most enjoyable to join with others when my own family are so far away."'
