RESIDENTS in Okehampton are being invited to join volunteers for a community work day this weekend, organised by the Growing our Future project.
Project volunteers will be working with local residents both young and old to continue the clearing and tidying of the New Gateway Garden on the corner of Crediton Road, Northfield Road and East Street in Okehampton.
The project is working with people from Okehampton to create a welcoming and restful space within the town.
Beth Hamer, of Growing our Future, said: 'This project has been initiated by young members of the community and hopes to inspire and encourage others to be fully involved in positively contributing to our town's green spaces.
'There are some exciting plans for the new Gateway Garden, the most important of which is to fully involve the community of Okehampton in the design of whatever may be located on this site.
'We are currently working with students from Okehampton College and community groups throughout the town to launch a community participation design process.
'We hope that the process of clearing the site to the final installation of a community initiated art work will take less than three months.'
The community work day takes place between 10am and 4pm Sunday February 8.
Anyone who wishes to join is asked to contact Dominie Hooper at Growing Our Future on: 07903 12 11 46 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
Beth said: 'Bring outdoor clothing, gardening gloves, some food to share and a spade, if you have one.
'Feel free to drop in for as long or as little as you like — we would just like to meet you and hear your thoughts.'
