Okehampton Argyle . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4

Cullompton . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2

AFTER last week's dreadful performance against Cullompton, Argyle did not have to wait long to remove that game from their memory.

At first Argyle started the game where they had finished last week as they could not keep possession, failed to win tackles and headers and put themselves in trouble at all times.

Chris Wills regained his place in a back three and soon settled in giving Paul Yip excellent support on the right. Jason Sandford and Adam Mortimer continued in attack but were mostly isolated as a lack lustre Argyle just went through the motions.

Cullompton took the lead when Kevin Gill lost his footing and allowed the striker an easy opportunity which he took.

A second was added soon after when a poor clearance fell to an on running midfield player who calmly slotted the ball home.

The interval could not come soon enough for Argyle who needed the time to regroup.

That they did because after the break they were a different team. pushing players forward they caused no end of problems with the pace of Mortimer and Sandford who now were getting the service all strikers need.

But it was a midfielder who opened Argyles account, when the visiting keeper made an excellent save from Mortimer, Ian King volleyed home the rebound.

Okehampton now had the fighting spirit which had been missing for the last two weeks and scored a second with a fabulous far post header by Mike Vernon.

Sandford then had a chance when he was one on one against the keeper but he hooked his shot wide.

Mortimer had a header which sailed inches over the bar.

Okes third goal came from veteran Nick Drew who scored a glancing header after a flick on by Mortimer.

By now Argyle were cruising and found time to play football, with neat passing and running off the ball they created several more chances but it was the ever willing Mortimer who scored the forth when he rounded the keeper to slot home.

The dominance of Argyle was so great that keeper Richard Bailey did not have to make a save during the second period.

Agnew and Gibbs in midfield both gave solid performances and it was nice to welcome back club captain Danny Maddax from injury as he had missed the last 3 weeks.

Next week Argyle travel to Exeter St Thomas for a 3pm ko. Players to meet in the car park at 1.15pm.
