THERE will be a host of street entertainers to cheer those attending this year's Dickensian Evening in Tavistock tomorrow (Friday).
Father Christmas and a festive donkey will be joined throughout the town by wind and brass bands, singers, Morris dancers, stilt walkers, and a unicyclist.
In addition to the cafés and restaurants in the town, late night shoppers will be able to sample a hog roast, burgers, hot dogs, bacon baps, mince-pies and mulled wine.
Free car parking will be available at Morrisons car park, with a shuttle bus operating throughout the evening to and from the town centre. In addition, there will be disabled parking at Lawsons and ATS at the top end of town near Somerfield.
The evening will culminate with a carol service in Bedford Square at 8.45pm, led by priest-in-charge of the parish the Rev Michael Brierley.
The festivities will continue through the weekend with a Christmas Food Festival in Bedford Square on both Saturday and Sunday.
l The old magistrates' court building in Tavistock Guildhall will be open to the public tomorrow (Friday).
Tavistock Police Station are holding the open event in conjunction with the Dickensian Evening. Police historian Simon Dell will be giving an historical presentation and tour of the Guildhall.
Presentation times will be 7pm and 8pm and will last approximately 40 minutes, allowing visitors access to parts of the old police station. Meet in the old court house.
Members of the local neighbourhood policing team and response officers will be available to speak to regarding local issues.
