A TAVISTOCK couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last week with close friends and family at Brown's Hotel. Ken and Marj Wilkinson met when they were both teenagers working at a Kodak factory in Wealdstone, near Wembley. They worked in nearby departments and started talking to each other by saying good morning and good afternoon. They both would attend weekly dances at the factory, and after one dance social in 1943, Ken asked if he could walk Marj home — she accepted and love started to bloom. While the couple planned their wedding day, Ken was called into the RAF, so preparations had to be moved forward and they married in December 1946. One month later Ken left for Burma, South East Asia. He returned home three years later and the couple made their home together in Wealdstone, before they moved to Middlesex. In 1971 the pair moved to Plymouth as Arrowheart (Europe Ltd), the firm Ken worked for, relocated to Estover. Ken later retired in 1989 at the age of 64 and he and Marj moved to Tavistock shortly afterwards, a move Ken said he had never regretted. Ken, 81, and Marj, 80, have one child, John Wilkinson, one granddaughter, 18 and a grandson who is 15. Marj said: 'A long and happy marriage happens as long as you meet the right person, then it works out nicely.'
