GET your thinking caps on . . . the Okehampton branch of the Devonshire Association begin their 2006 programme next week with a quiz evening. Paul Rendell, the editor of Dartmoor News, who gives talks and guided walks on the moor, will be setting the questions. Last January?s first quiz evening with Mr Rendell ? who lives in Okehampton ? was a great success. Charles Westlake, of the association, said: ?We have had an interesting and successful year with talks on the River Tamar, the story of Exeter, the history and art of stained glass, Lydford and tales of murder in Devon.? In the spring and summer, visits were made to Huish and Highampton churches, villages walks and church visits taken at Germansweek and Spreyton plus a walk around Bridestowe. ?Okehampton?s past has also been explored, with a town centre tour and a visit to the town hall followed by an evening meal in a local inn.? The branch is one of ten in the county and Mr Westlake said it was planning an even more varied programme this year. The association, which was formed in 1862, is a unique organisation covering every aspect of Devon?s past, present and future and has six sections emphasising specialist interests. The quiz evening takes place at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton, next Thursday (January 26) at 7.30pm. More information on the branch can be obtained by ringing 01837 52125. Everyone interested is welcome to come along to the events which are open to non-members. The branch is keen to attract a wide range of people.
