Tavistock U11s 21

Devonport U11s 21

TWELVE straight wins for Devonport in league and festival fixtures set the scene for this contest.

The visitors started well, moving the ball out to the threequarters at pace but excellent first-time tackles from the defensive line of Rufus Gould, Barnaby Frost and Elliot Hoyte put paid to any breakthrough.

The Tavistock forwards soon had the visitors penned in the corner, resulting in Mark Friend going over for the first try of the game.

Sustained pressure from the well disciplined Services side saw them twice crack the local defences to take the lead.

Tavistock continued to dominate forward play, pushing Devonport off the ball at the scrums and winning most of the lineouts. It was not long

before the score was levelled by winger Josh Leeson from a perfectly timed ball from scrum half Rhys Dunford.

Devonport scored once more before the break despite some monumental defence work from Philip Snell, Elliott Northmore and full back Jake Case.

Tavistock piled on the pressure from the restart forcing Devonport to defend for most of the half.

The front row of Joe Hair, Cameron Hogg and Mark Friend kept the ball in the forwards, crossing the try-line several times before Friend levelled the score with his second.

Replacements Josh Stephens and Charlie Hubbard played their part in this historic game with valuable visits to the field.

All three tries were successfully converted by Elliot Hoyte.

This Sunday the squad meet at Abbey car park at 9.15am to travel to

Kingsbridge.

A TENSE match in muddy conditions. Despite intense pressure in the second half, including a disallowed try by Jack Hodges who had clawed his way to the line, Launceston?s defences refused to yield.

The pack won more than half the possession with Peck hooking cleanly and Tom Hancock fighting hard to lay ball back from mauls.

Warren Smith at scrum half played his best and fought gamely with a sticky ball that was hard to control.

Both wings looked dangerous with hand and foot. Damien Dee was unlucky not to pick up from a kick through by captain Ewan McCall.

In defence Jimmy Hubbard?s tackling was an example to all , frequently poll -axing his opposite centres with ankle-high tackles.

This week?s men of the match went to two forwards, Jake Chinn for fine attacking play and to Aaron Churchill for outstanding direct running.

This Sunday the game is at home against Kingsbridge meeting at 10am with an 11am kick-off.
