WEST Devon triathlete Emily Attfield, aged 11, travelled to Swindon on Sunday to compete in the annual junior triathlon at Dorcan.  

Distances were 200m swim, 6km bike ride and 1,800m run.  

In the swim element Emily and one other competitor completed 50m more than the required distance by mistake, despite this a superb transition and equally good bike ride on the cycle path and closed road section saw her enter the run with more than a minutes lead.

Despite the initial error on the swim she still finished in first place in a new course record time of 26 mins 26 sec.  

Emily is a member of Tavistock Athletic Club and Tavistock Swimming Club.
