TAVISTOCK were very unfortunate not to come away with at least a share of the points at Bickland Park.

The Lambs had a really good opening 15 minutes when the played some really good possession football, with controlled passing and movement off the ball. This was causing the home defence some real problems, and they went close to opening their account, when Kojo Ofori shot was saved, after a fine move by Kinsman and Johnny Wyatt. Minutes later a short corner caught the home defence napping and Levi Landricombe and Wyatt combined well only to see his shot go wide of the target.

After this period the home side came more into the game and the first real scare for the Lambs came in the18th minute when Josh Sims and Matt Drummond played a one two, to set up a chance for Craig Duff, but his hurried shot went harmlessly wide of the target. The Lambs responded with another fine attacking move, when Johnny Wyatt, who was having a fine debut, provided a glorious cross, but Levi Landricombe shot flew across the face of the goal and wide.

Landricombe made amends in the 24th minute when he fired a low shot past Jason Chapman from 15 yards after being put in by Dave Hallett. Devine broke down the left before playing a one-two with Drummond before having his shot well saved by Dean Smith in the Tavistock goal. Both sides forced further chances as the half time whistle came with the Lambs thoroughly deserved to be leading at the interval.

The game was all square a minute into the second half when the home side were awarded a penalty. Jamie Ahearn and Mark Vercesi both went for a high ball in the area and the referee adjudged that Ahearn pushed Vercesi and awarded a penalty. Vercesi converted the penalty.

The home side now had the upper hand and Dean Smith in the Tavistock goal was called on to make two good saves to keep the Lambs in the contest. Tavistock gradually regained their composure and put the home defence under pressure.

Jerryd Kelly and Levi Landricombe combined well, to set up his brother Michael, but his shot was well saved by Chapman. Johnny Wyatt then, who was having a fine game, whipped in a great cross which just eluded Levi on the six yard line. Jerryd Kelly then gave Levi a great chance when his cross found Landricombe with the goal at his mercy but he headed wide.

With eight minutes remaining the Lambs were punished for their missed chances, when a long diagonal ball found Duff, on the angle of the penalty area; he unleashed a tremendous shot which nestled inside the far corner. Still the Lambs pushed forward and could have equalised but it was not to be, and the final whistle went with the visitors wondering how they had not got at least a share of the points.

It is often said you do not always get what you deserve in the game and this was the case, but there were many positives to take from the performance, with a number of good performances.

Overall it was a good team performance with new signings Bret Walton, Johnny Wyatt fitting in well, among other fine performances but the man of the match was Jerryd Kelly, a young lad who played for the reserves last season, and on Saturday proved beyond all doubt that he is going to a great asset to the first team. He leads the front line with pace, control, and was the start of many of the teams attacking moves, by bringing other players into the game.
