WEST Devon Conservatives hosted a fact-finding visit around the borough last week, attended by the shadow minister of state for culture, media and sport John Whittingdale.
Mr Whittingdale said: ?Tavistock, in terms of Devon and Cornwall, in not having any local authority owned pitches, is very unusual. I suspect there are not many areas in the country that have as great a need as you have here.?
Mr Whittingdale admitted that, as a shadow minister, his influence was limited, but said he did all he could to help places like Tavistock.
?One of the things I am constantly doing is trying to draw attention to sporting facilities up and down the country ? this is a prime example of one where there is desperate need, I will certainly do all I can,? said the MP.
Following his visit to Tavistock, Mr Whittingdale, who represents Malden and East Chelmsford in Essex, visited the High Moorland Visitor Centre at Princetown.
