STAFF, pupils and parents at Milton Abbot Primary welcomed a new headteacher to the school at the beginning of the term.

Jo Nutbeam came to West Devon from a primary school in West Yorkshire to join her partner who recently became editor of the Plymouth Herald.

Ms Nutbeam said: 'It was a big move for us. I was working in West Yorkshire so had to change authorities — it is a similar type of school in a rural location but the old one was slightly bigger.'

Ms Nutbeam started working at Milton Abbot at the start of the term but came down to West Devon earlier to spend some time getting used to the area.

The head said she has planned with the teachers and parents to look at refurbishing the school library to improve the quality of resources available to the children.

'It is an exciting time. It's such a lovely school and I'm very excited about joining such a lovely part of the country, and my dogs love Dartmoor — what more could we want?'
