MORE than 1,000 players from all over the world compete to get their card for the European Golf Tour.
After a gruelling three months of highly competitive golf and hours of practice 24 year old James Ruth, a member of Tavistock Golf Club, played in the final qualifying stage held at Catalunya, Spain last week.
To the delight of his family, friends and club members James qualified at 16th with an excellent 11 under par after six rounds.
Acting as his caddy was Dominic Rehaag, the former Tavistock club professional, who has coached James since he was 12 years old.
Dominic confirmed how demanding the two weeks in Catalunya had been but how James had risen to the occasion and had played great golf.
James, who turned professional in 2006, was a former Devon County player and represented England as a youth golfer and was selected for the England Men's Elite Squad for three years.
This week James is playing his first European Tour match at Leopards Creek, Johannesburg, South Africa.
