Shebbear College entered the North Devon Conservation Awards and after being visited by judges, students attended the award ceremony at the Guildhall in Barnstaple. There were a number of other schools present and the competition was fierce, so there was delight and surprise when the judges announced that Shebbear had won the cup for the secondary school section. The judges were most impressed by the huge success of the college's Fairtrade shop, the proceeds of which go to charities the college supports through a link in Uganda. Charity co-ordinator, Fran Lovett, said: 'This is testimony to all the hard work the pupils and staff have done in order to make our school more eco-friendly. It is a real team effort and I am excited about the planned future projects.'
