THERE's a chance this weekend to enjoy a beautiful garden, enjoy a delicious cream tea — and raise money for a very deserving cause.
The open gardens day at Lark Rise in Crapstone has been arranged to raise much needed funds for the Children's Hospice South West.
Linda Downing of the Buckland Friends of the Hospice group said she was very grateful to David and Jenny Miles, who are opening their garden to the public for the fifth time.
Linda said: 'It was amazing last year, we made £1,200. The kind hairdressers across the road let us use their shop as a tea room, Buckland Cricket Club let us use their field to park the cars — it's a real community effort.
'This hospice has brought out such a lot of good and kindness in people, it's wonderful.'
The open gardens event takes place from 11am until 5pm on Sunday June 2. Cream teas and home made cakes will be on offer at the hairdressers and plants will also be available to buy.
Admission costs £1.50 for adults, 50p for children — dogs are not permitted in the garden. Linda is hoping the event will be even more profitable than last year — the Children's Hospice costs £1.7 million a year to run and is reliant totally on the fundraising efforts of groups of Friends.
Just recently the Buckland group made more than £1,000 from a bric-a-brac and plant sale in the village.
