Underhill Group Plymouth & West Devon Combination Senior Division Tavistock 2nds 1 Plymouth Rangers 4 WITH a number of key players absent, Tavistock were always going to find this return match hard going, particularly with Rangers looking for revenge after their defeat at the hands of Tavistock last week. Initially the game was evenly balanced with both teams continually probing for the breakthrough. It came in the 15th minute when a poor clearance from the Tavistock defence ran straight to an on-coming striker who wasted no time in putting Rangers ahead. An equaliser came ten minutes later when a floating corner appeared to be deflected by a Rangers? defender into his own net. This was beginning to look like a re-run of last week. Unfortunately the home side failed to capitalise on their good fortune despite a number of well crafted attacks on the Rangers? goal. With just two minutes to the half time whistle it was Rangers who managed to increase their lead to 2-1. From the start of the second half Tavistock?s defence was looking stretched and with 15 minutes to go, conceded an arguable penalty. Rangers were 3-1 up and gaining in confidence, increasing their lead to 4-1 minutes later. Tavistock, much to their credit, continued to batter at Rangers? defensive wall but with little success. Tavistock?s defence appeared to have gone walkabout for the last 10 minutes with only the inability of the Rangers strikers to hit the target preventing them from increasing their lead.
