Whitchurch v Plympton 3rd XI
WHITCHURCH?s run of six consecutive victories came to a halt as they were beaten by a youthful Plympton side. Nevertheless Whitchurch remain top of the table.
Playing at Gunnislake, Whitchurch won the toss and invited Plympton to bat. The pitch offered little assistance to the bowlers who toiled under the sun. Davies bowled a controlled spell of 13 overs, taking 2 for 33, including the dangerous Smith for 15.
Major and Smith had added 46 for the second wicket, but Major soon followed his colleague back to the pavilion after offering up a simple return catch to spinner Tamblin.
Two quick wickets to Tamblin (3-52) had Plympton reeling at 69-5 after a promising start. Wrench (25) and Woodward (42) restored things to Plympton?s favour, until the innings was wrapped up with 2 wickets to Heatley and 3 for Whitchurch?s promising youngster Woodrow. Plympton posted a gettable total of 168 all out.
It was Whitchurch?s batting that let them down. All Plympton?s young bowlers bowled a good line, thereby making run-scoring difficult.
George and Havard opened the bowling and had restricted Whitchurch to 42 for 4 with half the allocated overs complete. Havard completed his spell with 2 for 12 off 12 overs. Smith also bowled aggressively and ripped out Whitchurch?s middle order with 4 for 22.
None of Whitchurch?s batsmen scored more than 13, as the side were indebted to 26 wides before succumbing to 74 all out.
This week Whitchurch entertain Galmpton.
