I WAS deeply saddened when I learned of David and Samantha Cameron's tragic loss of their six-year-old son Ivan, who had cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
I was particularly moved, as it brought back memories of my own sister who died as a result of the same conditions some years ago.
Gordon Brown, who spoke from his own personal experiences, was absolutely right when he led tributes by saying that the death of a child was something that no parent should have to bear.
In the same headlines, I also noted the untimely death of yet another four UK servicemen in Afghanistan. Whilst of little consolation, I am hopeful that their deaths were not in vain. We can only have faith that our political leaders, whose direction we follow with solid determination, have the fortitude and moral courage to make difficult decisions in uncertain times.
As a final thought, I simply urge the continued and invaluable support of the great British public, our families and loved ones, for whom the soldiers, sailors and airmen truly serve.
