East Cornwall premier Wadebridge Town 0

Bere Alston United 3

BERE Alston secured their second league win of the season and in the process extended their unbeaten run to three games with this well merited victory at Wadebridge.

With five first team regulars missing, manager Kevin Taylor reverted back to a 4-4-2 formation employing captain Will Westlake in an unfamiliar left back position.

In an evenly matched, but scoreless first half, both teams had chances with Will Westlake called into immediate action, clearing off the line in the first five minutes and Mike Curtis forcing the Wadebridge keeper into a good save after a surging run from midfield.

Bere had further efforts with Darren Smalley, Dan Pethick, James Donnellon and Mike Curtis, again all going close whilst Craig Howells made a good stop from a well driven shot by Wadebridge midfielder Ben Beesley.

Bere started the second half in the ascendancy with Mike Curtis forcing the Wadebridege keeper into another fine save from a well taken free kick and several other half chances came and went with Wadebridge always looking threatening on the break.

Kevin Taylor's first substitution with 25 minutes to go, however, changed the game.

Nick Aplin, making his debut, started to create things down the Bere right and from one particular cross, Dan Pethick headed the ball back for Dan Follett to volley Bere into the lead.

The Wadebridge response was almost immediate with Mark Wheeler having to clear from under his own crossbar as the home side pressed for an equaliser.

Then, against the run of play, Nick Aplin was again sent racing clear down the Bere right and his well driven cross was forced home at the far post by Mike Curtis.

In the closing minutes Dan Follett put the gloss on a fine team performance when he smashed home his second and Bere's third from the edge of the box.
