POPULAR Okehampton table tennis player Ron Venton died on March 22, aged 82.
Mr Venton died at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital shortly after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.
He and his wife, Maureen, had been members of Okehampton Table Tennis Club since it was founded 14 years ago.
He played in the Okehampton League since its inception some ten years ago. He and Maureen played in the C team in division 2, with Ron regularly playing league games until recently.
Mr Venton was believed to be the oldest Okehampton League player, and one of the club?s most respected members.
He was the son of a policemen and was born at North Tawton. He lived in Okehampton for 40 years and was manager of the TSB branch in the town.
He leaves Maureen, two daughters and two grown-up grandsons.
