MARGARET Green Animal Rescue last week regretfully announced the recent death of founder, 94-year-old Margaret Green.
Margaret, who died on December 24, established the Margaret Green Animal Rescue sanctuary in 1965 with her father Jerry Green. Her objective was to rescue, care for and where possible find new homes for animals in need.
She had a love of all animals but from an early age recognised that many were ill treated, neglected or unwanted resulting in them needing rescue and care.
In 1965 the Margaret Green Foundation Trust purchased land in Dorset to build an animal sanctuary, where Margaret lived until 1970. She oversaw the development of the sanctuary and worked with the animals everyday, developing the charity and setting up additional rescue centres, another in Dorset and one in Wingletang, Brentor.
The charity now operates as Margaret Green Animal Rescue but remains dedicated to the aims and objectives established by Margaret in 1965.
