WE should be grateful to Roger Mathew (Letters, January 29) for clarifying the responsibilities regarding the tight timescales to be met in responding to notification of proposals by cellular phone companies.

I assume that the small panel of councillors and the ward councillors, who have to decide whether the application should be 'called in', have to rely on the planning department to let them know that an application has been recieved .

I, along with other objectors to the proposal to build 52 timber clad one to four bedroomed luxury lodges at Butcher Park Hill, recently received a letter from the planning department of West Devon Borough Council giving us seven days to respond to changes made by the applicant. However, the letter was dated on a Monday but was not posted until Wednesday!

Let us hope that the planning department give our elected representative more timely advice than they do the rate-paying public.
