AN event to promote environmentally-friendly building techniques is to be held in September by Coryton-based charity Westden. The Sustainable Building Day at Morwellham Quay on September 28 will showcase new and traditional technologies for environmentally-friendly construction. Organiser Richard Halliwell said: ?There is a growing interest among professional builders and the general public in how to build with sensitivity to the environment. ?The aim of this event is to bring up-to-date information and demonstration of good practice about sustainable building techniques to a wide audience. ?We are also keen to make the link between unsustainable building methods and climate change. People are becoming increasingly aware that the energy used to extract, manufacture and transport different types of building materials can contribute to climate changing gases such as carbon dioxide. ?We aim to give people practical examples of materials and techniques, both traditional and cutting edge, which can play a part in tackling climate change.? It is hoped the day will be particularly useful to organisations, individuals, planners, builders and architects. A range of activities is being planned and a wide range of companies will be on hand to demonstrate their products including options for renewable energy including solar panels, geothermal and hydro electric energy generation.
