BUSINESS women and would-be female entrepreneurs can find out about all aspects of running their own firm at Okehampton's first ever Women's Enterprise Day. The day of information gathering and networking takes place on Wednesday, November 15, at the Ockment Centre, from 10.30am to 3pm. The event, organised by Business Link Devon and Cornwall, has been set up for women thinking of starting up a business or currently running one. The day will enable like-minded business women to share their passion for working for themselves and give those thinking of taking the first important steps into business the chance to access information and support available to help them turn ideas into reality. Annette Morton, project manager Business Link said: 'The process of starting a business can seem daunting, which is why we have set up this fantastic opportunity for local women to get information on business support which is specifically adapted to meet their needs. 'The South West has the highest level of female entrepreneurship in the UK at 5.6% and approximately 15% of businesses in the two counties are owned by women. 'We are hoping we can lower some of the barriers that put many women off starting their businesses, Principally, lack of access to women-friendly business support and finance and balancing business demands with family responsibilities and child care. 'This will be a great chance for like-minded women to share their ideas and find out more about the support and guidance that is available to them.' The day forms one of many activities occurring as part of Enterprise Week, a national awareness week to boost the importance of enterprise, particularly among young people. Established women entrepreneurs who will be speaking at the event include Pauline Young, of Link Telemarketing, and Kate Baber, of IT consultancy Integrem Ltd.
