Tavistock U11s Festival, Tawstock ON a crisp winter day a 15-strong Tavistock rugby squad took part in a mini tournament at Tawstock featuring ten teams. First up was Barnum who fielded a strong disciplined team. Tavistock contested strongly, but a quickly taken penalty enabled Barnum to score, and in the second half a good blindside break by their scrum-half resulted in a 0-10 defeat. Next were a strong Devonport team (eventual beaten finalists) but the rearranged front row held their own ? enabling the backs to get some reasonable possession. The tiny size of the pitch, however, did not allow them the room to show their paces. Despite valiant defence three tries were conceded giving a 0-19 result. The third match against the Barbars showed what Tavistock were capable of ? with fine tries, all converted. The final game was the tightest with Tavistock taking an early lead against South Molton, who then responded with a try and goal to go 7-12 up. Tavistock hung in there and in the final minute scored a great individual try and a penalty which won the day.
