Chagford 1

Galmptop Gents 0

In only their second league match, Chagford hoped to carry their friendlies' form forward as they sought their first points.

For much of the first half, the visitors pressed in all areas and their hosts struggled to make any impact.

Chagford's defence held strong, with man of the match, Will Hutchison, and makeshift right-back Dale Chadwick both having superb games.

Chagford came out after the break with more resolve going forward and started to enjoy more possession.

Chances came and went, though it took a penalty to break the deadlock. Andrew Davis was pulled back as he surged into the penalty area and then picked himself up to drive the spot-kick home.

The Moormen saw out the match in the ascendancy with top scorer Woof hitting the post.

After this result Chagford will feel the early season pressure has lifted a little.

Paignton Saints res 3

Chagford reserves 4

IN a thrilling seven goal encounter, Chagford Reserves just came out on top through Jon Scarry's late penalty.

Although Saints enjoyed the better play in opening the match, they found themselves two goals behind after just 13 minutes. Mike Wright opened his Chagford account with a drive from 18 yards out, on eight minutes. Five minutes later, Jon Philpott's cross to the far post found Rob Lethbridge lurking for a comfortable side-footed goal.

Saints then came back to life and some poor defending allowed them to enjoy scoring three times to lead at half-time.

Injured centre-back Rob Thorn made way for Martin Haxton and Chagford set to the task of salvaging something from the game.

Philpott headed over and other players' shots cleared the home crossbar.

It took a little luck for the Moormen to equalise and it was their county U18s player Will Cork who found it with Chagford's third.

As the end came closer, Chagford pressed and Jon Scarry was tripped in the box for a penalty. Scarry brushed himself down and coolly tucked in what was to prove the winner.
