A KELLY College student has rounded off a year of success after he was named Devon County ASA Swimmer of the Year last Saturday.
David Hill, 14, now joins a prestigious list of swimmers who have previously been presented with the award, including Olympic silver medallist Sharron Davies, former Kelly student Paul Brew and his own coach at Kelly, Robin Brew.
David has had considerable success in disability events this year. He won ten races at the British Disability Championships in Sheffield earlier in the year, further medals at the British Championships and was selected for the world class potential squad.
The highlight of the year for David, who also competes with able-bodied swimmers, was the two world short course records he set in February and March.
At the recent Disability Sport England National Open Short Course held earlier this year, David won three gold and two silver medals, only being beaten by the current paralympic champion and world record holder, 22-year-old James Crisp. Despite the competition being outside David?s training schedule, he performed well enough to be within the qualifying times for next year?s World Class Potential Programme.
David shares the county swimmer of the year award with Liam Tancock of Exeter City.
