DAVID Hill (15) and Claire Cashmore (16), both of Kelly College, Tavistock travelled to Sheffield?s Pond?s Forge to the Disability Sport England National Junior Swimming Championships on Saturday and Sunday. The competition brought together more than 200 Junior disabled swimmers from around the country and was sponsored this year by Children in Need. Both David and Claire are S9 class swimmers and were part of the GB team at the Paralympic Games in Athens. Claire Cashmore has just gained a place on the World Class Performance programme and David Hill who is still too young for performance has regained a place on the World Class Potential programme. David and Claire have continued on from last year?s success winning 8 gold medals this weekend. David gained 3 personal best times, three National Junior records and was pleased to break the British and European record in the 50m Backstroke. Claire gained two personal best times, three National Junior records and she not only broke the British and European record in the 50m Backstroke but also the World Record. Claire was also named best female performance of the championships. She collected her trophy at the competition and will be awarded a Nationwide bursary later in the year for her achievements. David and Claire will now concentrate on their training in preparation for the DSE Long Course and the Paralympic World Cup in May.
