CLYST Valley stunned Hatherleigh with two goals inside the first ten minutes and for much of the first half it looked like the home side would never recover.
Things slowly began to change and by the break Hatherleigh were unfortunate not to have gone in on level terms.
The second half saw the visitors virtually confined to their own half and when chances went begging Hatherleigh must have thought it was going to be one of 'those days'.
With seven minutes remaining substitute Nathaniel Davey, who had just come on, latched onto a header by Simon Jarvis and rounded the keeper to pull one back.
A few minutes later he ran through to score again and take the game into extra time.
The start of extra time continued just as the end of normal time and within two minutes Martin Reynolds volleyed home from a corner to put Hatherleigh ahead.
Davey continued the scoring spree by getting three further goals. A Gary Knight header and a Jamie Halpin shot competed the scoring.
Hatherleigh's next match is at home to Exmouth Amateurs on November 20.
