RHS GARDEN Rosemoor in Great Torrington is preparing for the official opening of its new Square Garden, 16 years on from its original planting. The ceremony will take place at 11.15am on Wednesday, July 30 with the president of the RHS, Peter Buckley, declaring the garden officially open. Originally created in 1991, the Square Garden was cleared in late 2007 and completely re-landscaped and replanted to a new design put forward by West Country garden designer Roger Webster. The popular hot colour scheme has been retained, but new mixed borders now surround a naturalistic meadow- style centre, which is a first for Rosemoor. Planting is now complete and the garden is quickly developing. It is already open for the public to take a look as the plants settle in. The plants should be well-established by the official opening, demonstrating the hot colour theme of orange, gold, scarlet and purple. Rosemoor gardeners David Squire and Louisa Bennelick will lead a walk to explain how the garden was transformed on Wednesday, July 16 at 11am. Call 01805 626800 to book a place.
