MORE than 250 people from across Devon joined Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Tavistock) last week at the first event celebrating its 50th anniversary.
A special service was held at St Eustachius’ Church in Tavistock.
Rhod Davey, chairman of DSRT (Tavistock), led the celebrations by describing the team’s story over the years. Afterwards he commented: ‘I was blown away by the number of people who commented about how strong the team is and how much of a sense of family we have.
‘It truly was an honour to represent the team and accept the impressive awards on our behalf.’
A variety of team members exhibited their kit and equipment before the congregation watched the first public viewing of the team’s new film.
In response the Lord-Lieutenant of Devon, David Fursdon, offered thanks on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen and the many agencies across Devon who the team work alongside.
Refreshments were laid on by the Friends of St Eustachius’.
There will be further events throughout the year including a family fun day in July and The 11 Tors walking challenge in September.
